When we talk about “breaking the cycle of illiteracy and poverty,” we are not just using words. We are describing a transformation we witness every day.

Last year, we enrolled 20 orphaned and vulnerable children in our education support program. For most of them, it was their first time owning a set of books, a uniform, or a pair of shoes. Many were on the verge of dropping out; some had already left school.

Fast forward to today: these 20 children are attending classes regularly. Their teachers report improved performance and greater participation. We have even seen some emerge as top students in their subjects.

Why does education matter so much? Because it gives a child options. It replaces hopelessness with possibility. A girl who can read can become a doctor, a teacher, or a leader. A boy who masters mathematics can become an engineer who builds roads for his village.

We still have so much more to do. There are hundreds more children in Kabende and surrounding areas waiting for a chance. But every child we help today plants a seed for a brighter tomorrow.
